Gallery 1: 28. Eaton Centre Billboard (June
2007 in Toronto)

This is a photograph of the east side of Eaton Centre, near Yonge and Dundas
in downtown Toronto. The billboard is one of series of large billboards
that surround a park on the other side of Yonge, which was supposed to be
our version of Times Square. I took this photograph just before dusk, when
the sky had a desaturated look and the light was soft. I like the
atmosphere of this image, which feels to me like a positive vision of the
future, without the grit and smog of the present day.
Shortly before I took this photograph, a small plane flew overhead and posed
itself, above and to the left of the billboard. I got off a quick shot but
the plane was in the wrong place by the time I took the picture. Curses!
